The 149% PEB Church of St. Mary in Mollis/GL is an exemplary demonstration of how even listed buildings can be upgraded through innovative and clever planning thanks to a PV roof and become a PEB. The church, built in 1965, consumed 80,827 kWh/a before the renovation. With the full-surface and perfectly integrated solar system on the south side of the church roof, around 49,300 kWh/a of CO₂-free solar power is generated annually. The church therefore not only produces its own CO₂-free electricity, but also a solar power surplus of 16,200 kWh/a. The striking architecture of the building is significantly enhanced by the exemplary integration of the PV system. The church received the Norman Foster Solar Award 2023 for this aesthetically pleasing and exemplary renovation.
